About the Institute:

The Institute developed out of the "Work Group for Breath-Therapeutic Training" founded in 1987. At that time, the Group was dedicated to Psycho-physic Breath-Therapy based on the traditional training concept of Prof. Ilse Middendorf. In February 1992, our Institute was officially recognized as a training Institute by the AFA.

Some Breath Pedagogues of the "School Wolf, Switzerland" who wanted to engage themselves in the Middendorf Work participated in the first part-time training course, lead by Stefan Bischof and Wolfgang Schilling, from 1987 to 1991 in Switzerland. Out of the work of organizing this training course emerged a close cooperation between colleagues Antonia Spuhler, Irene Christen, Bettina von Capeller, and Anna Rickenbach, who were responsible for the training therapy of the participants. In 1991, some of the graduates of this first training course were examined and accepted by the AFA-Institute Commission.

For the second training course, which launched in 1990 with Swiss and German participants, Beate Häberle and Geha Haas enrolled as assistant lecturers for the Psychology classes. Irene Christen enrolled to teach Vovel Breath Space Work as well as Breath and Dance.

In 1994, the Institute terminated its teaching function. As the new leader of the Institute, Stefan Bischof initiated the reopening of the Institute's teaching function in 2003 with the Advanced Training Course in Breath Psychotherapy. The reopening was preceded in 2001 by two trainings, in addition to one Advanced Training in Psychotherapeutic Breath Work, out of which the new training courses emerged.

2009, after having been accredited by the EABP-Forum the institute was renamed in 'Institute of Breath & Body Psychotherapy'. Since then the institue offers the Advanced Training successfully with the new name. Several accreditations followed, shown in the menue "Accreditations".

2011 Anita Rieder (Dipl. Atemtherapeutin AFS, Atem- & Körperpsychotherapie IAKPT, Körperpsychotherapie EABP-CH®/ ECP, Atempsychotherapie AFA® ) and trainer in the institutes' Advanced Training since 23rd September 2010, could be won for deputy headmaster of the institute.

2012 the additional domicile in Thalwil (Switzerland) has been founded.

2013 in spring Brigitte Maas (Atemtherapeutin AFA® , Atem- & Körper- psychotherapie IAKPT, HP für Psychotherapie, Körperpsychotherapie DGK) accomplished her formation as trainer IAKPT. Since 2011 she teaches together with Anita Rieder.

From fall 2014-2017 on the institute offers the Basic Training in Breath an Body Therapy with Anita Rieder, Brigitte Maas and the trainer of the Basic Course Beatrice Ochsner, Carola Kaupp and Kirsten Sander.

From 2017, the institute ended its training activities and continues to operate purely as a professional development and continuing education institute.

The trainers of the basic training 2014-17 (Anita Rieder, Brigitte Maas, Kirsten Sander, Béatrice Ochsner and Carola Kaupp) continued the basic training independently from 2018 in the newly founded “Center for Breath and Body Therapy” ZFAKT.
